Kalispell is the hub and county seat of the Flathead Valley. Located in Glacier Country in Northwest Montana it was founded by Charles Conrad in 1891 and is still decorated with Mr. Conrad's Victorian style residence, a 26 room mansion. Today the Conrad Mansion offers visitors a glimpse into the past. It was a house built with state-of-the-art conveniences and is a great example of turn of the century innovations, such as a freight elevator, a dumbwaiter, a warming oven, built-in fire hoses on each level, drying drawers in the laundry, and a communication system: electronic call box, intercom and even a speaking tube. Additional features are two Italian onyx cold water drinking fountains. Tours of the house are given from May 15th to October 15th each year and special events such as a "Death by Chocolate" Murder Mystery fundraiser, Christmas Bazaar and various Teas give visitors the opportunity to take a look into the past.
Kalispell is a quickly growing city and is considered a commerce hub for the valley and surrounding towns.
